Sidetracked Soundtrack – Bill’s original guitar

Bill at 24

When I first met Bill in 1979, his dumpy student apartment was empty of furniture. He had nailed together a few boards to make himself a desk. He slept in a camping hammock strung from the bedroom corner to corner.

But ten guitars lined the walls, a sax, a flute, bongo drums, an electric keyboard. One to the guitars was a 1972 Martin, the last year Brazilian Rosewood was used to make guitars due to endangerment of  the species. At the time while in college, he sold instruments on commission for a music store and played in bands to pay his bills.

Bill’s original tunes make up the soundtrack for “Sidetracked”. Here’s a home recording of one of his lyrical acoustic songs.
